“Wire Trip” Stainless Wire Deterrent
For many years, people have been trying to keep birds away from parapets and ledges by installing parallel strands of fishing line attached to nails or screws embedded in the surface. Whilst this has sometimes been temporarily successful, the materials deteriorate rapidly under our harsh climatic conditions and, as a result the installation either falls into disrepair or becomes onerous in terms of maintenance. In any event, it is far from aesthetically pleasing, and introducing the correct tension into the lines is problematic.
This may be acceptable in domestic situations as it is definitely a low-cost option, but large installations or places where access is difficult and perhaps dangerous are very difficult to maintain.
For these reasons we redeveloped the theme by switching all of the components to stainless steel and christening it
“Wire Trip” Stainless Wire Deterrent. It consists of a series of self-tensioning parallel stainless wire ropes of 1.5mm diameter supported on stainless steel posts, 65mm above a surface at 40mm centres. The tension is introduced by means of specially manufactured stainless steel springs with a liimited extension so that they can never be overstretched and therefore, providing we do not exceed 3.5 m from post to post, they will never sag or distort even if walked on by humans.
The installation is maintenance and corrosion free, and we take extreme care not to compromise waterproofing by injecting polyurethane or polyester sealants into the holes for the posts, and making every effort not to puncture torch-on waterproofing.
